Lazy Daisy - Borderlands 2 Cosplay

Here is the process I went through to creating a lazy Daisy from Borderlands 2:

Who is Daisy?

Daisy is an NPC who hangs around Sanctuary, she is one of Scooter's love interest and you meet her in one quest. Please click on this link to listen to the poetic, lovely vocals of Scooter to Daisy: *SPOILER* Meet Daisy in Borderlands 2 *SPOILER*

Why Daisy?

As you can see, Daisy's outfit is pretty simple and I am pretty lazy and at the time of choosing who to cosplay, I was playing Borderlands 1 and not familiar enough with Borderlands 2 and Daisy.

Steps:

  1. Finding the clothing and material.
    1. I went to my local thrift shop and found a purple-gray suede jacket and a light purple chemise.
    2. Then we went to a party store where I found a top hat.
    3. The hardest part was the flowers, I went to Walmart (bought ribbon there) and Dollarama, no blue daisy-like flowers with yellow centers.
Finally found some appropriate looking ones at my local Michael's, an art and crafts shop.
  2. Preparing the material and clothing
    1. The hat: I glue-gunned the ribbon around the border of the hat like in the picture. For the flowers, I undid them from the fake stem and glued 2 of them together to make them thicker and then I glued 3 to the left side of the hat.
    2. The top: very simple, I cut a large piece of the chemise, just the bottom of it and sewed it on the tips of the bottom of the jacket so it looks like I'm wearing it underneath it.
I also prepared an extra flower to glue on the tip of the opening of the jacket.
I also got some sticker velcros from Dollarama, (bad idea cause the velcro is stronger than the glue and it's too solid to sew through) to keep the top part of the jacket closed.
  3. Testing the outcome
    1. Makeup: I looked at a pic from Daisy and with an eyeliner I did the cel shading on my face. She also has purple eyeshadow, red lips and rosy cheeks. Don't forget the freckles!
For the freckles: I googled some tips but the only useful one turned into huge mole-like circles; which looks stupid. What I ended up finding was a liquid liner from Marcelle (cosmetic company, found in any pharmacy) that looks like a marker! Worked soooo well, I'd mark spots on my face and then dry it off with a tissue to make them paler.
    2. Hair: now my hair is pretty long, for the testing I just tied it up but the problem is my hair is also very thin, especially at the tips so I tried pinning it up to have the tips coming out but I looked balding and sad. So for the first Comic Con, I simply curled it but it turned out way bushier than expected and would have done a pretty good Hermione.
    3. Full outfit: With the top prepared, I matched it with some completely black pants and my black, winter boots with were perfect for a lazy combo.

Sorry for the angle, the blogger is stupid, anyway that's the outcome for Toronto. No one recognized me being a lazily done NPC from a new game but I did have lots of fun!

In my group, Maya, Handsome Jack, Roland, a psycho we found there, Axton, and I!

Then we decided to go to Ottawa CC, so we perfected  our costumes.

Steps:

  1. Cel shading: Now, we decided to cel shade the rest of our costume to match our faces, (some people thought my costume was bad steampunk with weird makeup). So I went to my local crafting store, Wallacks and bough a black fabric marker and just colored all the seams and then put the jacket on and colored the seams I made with movement. For the purple chemise, I tried to follow the cel shading from Daisy within the game (see pics).
  2. Testing the outcome:
        1. Outfit: nothing changed but the cel shading.
        2. Hair: tried and failed miserably to make my hair shorter, I managed to shorten some off by making pigtails and then using bobby-pins to bring some strands in front and leave some in the back, all of it hidden under the hat.
        3. Together:

This time round I got recognized vocally twice! By other players we found there, it was pretty awesome how we randomly ran into them and took group pictures with them. :)
Confused? That's great, don't worry, I'm on the left. ;)

The finale:

Dr Zed 1, Moxxi, Lillith, Salvador, Axton, Roland, Handsome Jack, Dr Zed 2, Tannis, Gaige, Psycho, Maya, and I!

All in all, a great first experience for cosplaying. My cousin (Maya) is clearly more dedicated and talented at this but with her help, my lazy job didn't turn out too horrible and for the future costumes, should be great!
